I can provide an answer, but I will not label it as the definitive answer as there are a lot of people who know much more about search engines and promoting websites than I do, but my perspective is from that of the browser, the person, who is looking for something on the internet.

Most of us, in many aspects of life, look for something definitive; something which sets a standard, is a recognizable brand, essentially something we don't have to think about.

If someone comes along and asks "what is the best photo editor" or "what program should I use for editing photos" the common answer is Photoshop. This is an answer which does not require thinking; it is spontaneous, meaning it has become ingrained and automatic. I use other photo editors and will provide a list of potential answers to which others will be surprised there are other such photo editors out there...well...simply because the automatic response prevented them from looking.

I say automatic response, though in psychology, and as coined by Pavlov, it is conditioned response. We all have an expected conditioned response to any particular stimuli. If we need a tissue, we often think Kleenex, regardless the brand we are using; we call most any cola a Coke. (keep in mind that the aforementioned is cultural and what are common terms in your culture may be different, but it is still the same conditioned response).

Now this is going a long way to say that we have become conditioned just as well on the internet. People look for the common; that's what they hear. People consider websites as dotcoms, hence why .com is still the most common TLD. Google has become a household name for searching for something on the internet. eBay is where people go to buy and sell stuff online.

It's not that these companies and services necessarily set out to be household names, though well they may have, but that the natural tendency of people to think automatically has allowed the internet to become monopolized.

In the concrete world, people get newspapers and TV commercials telling them where they can find what, what is on sale, etc. The internet does not have a newspaper and was evolved word of mouth. When someone wanted to find something, they were told to Google it, and they told others as well.

Webmasters are no different from others, except that they be even more susceptible to cliche. Look online for the most common or fadish rumor about web design, search engines, or anything to do with webmastering, then go onto a webmaster forum and ask a question about that very subject and the majority will provide you with the rumor as an answer.

(example: I have a link farm site, which it is common knowledge among webmasters that Google does not like link farms, will not rank them, and will not index them. My link farm site in not only indexed by Google, it is a PR3.)

That popular webmaster forum became popular and that's where webmasters went. I won't take any credit away from them for obviously promoting it well, but it has become the automatic place for webmasters to go, and many of them don't bother to look anywhere else.

I cannot predict whether NB will reach the same status as DP. It won't happen soon, but anything is possible.

Will is smart and is not full of himself like those on DP. He has made several accomplishment with NB in a relatively short time, with help of course, which DP probably did not.

The main things are building links and traffic against a forum which already has years of previous work done for it, and trying to become a different household name for a webmaster forum in the face of DP. It could take years, but it didn't happen overnight for DP and they have done a super job with NB so far.

Thanx for reply, I agree it is matter of time and certainly anything need the required time to reach at that level.

I don't think webmaster forums are only popular . All forums get traffic according to the niche and promotions . Just just alexa and traffic of exbii.com and Dp forum . You will not find too big difference .

Everything depends on the quality of content your forum is providing to niche lovers .If you have best entertainment stuff than you will be on top one day for sure .

For search engine traffic alone, quality of the content has little if any bearing on the traffic and rankings in search engines. Google is more interested in keywords, webmasters know this and try to load content into their sites to get hits from Google.

Doing a search on Google for a variety of topics will often yield penny articles barely containing any real information on their subject other than to be loaded with keywords dealing with the subject.

Activity on a forum, or any website for that matter, produces more traffic by providing more content for the search engines which in turn then brings in traffic; regardless of the quality of the content.

DP and other sites which have been around for a while and are well know not only benefit from years of promotion, but from word of mouth and people just getting use to DP being the webmaster forum, whether that is true anymore or not.
